Yesterday I took a drive over to RSPB Troup Head for the first time in a year to see the Gannets. This is a great spot for birdwatchers but I always struggle with compositions. I have also noticed yet another decline in the Gannet population from last year at this specific spot. Mountain Hares with a lot of sass and my favourite! On Wednesday I went to see the Hares during their transition from white to brown fur. It was a stunning day but somewhat difficult conditions to photograph in. I decided to use it as an opportunity to try shooting into the light, something I’ve always struggled with. Catch of the day. I am already missing my days spent searching for the elusive otter in Morvern and Strontian. Out of eight outings, I only managed to catch a glimpse three times. This was my last day out in the area and was by far the best encounter I have had so far. It was a joy to watch this otter successfully hunt on a sunny afternoon. There’s always time for a quick nap between some hunting. My last day down south before returning to Inverness was spent in Morvern along Loch Aline. I had a wee photoshoot with a Toad today while exploring Glencoe Wood. I spotted it on the road while first walking up to the Loch and took advantage of the wonderful light. On my walk back, it had moved onto a rock and it posed so nicely.. we went for a dark moody style (my suggestion) for the second shoot and I think it worked pretty well. A local barn owl, taken a few weeks ago. This was such a special few days for me, it was the first time I’d ever seen a barn owl in daylight, and it was beautiful to see. I am still pinching myself with this encounter. For many, Otters are a somewhat regular occurrence but for me, they have always eluded me. But after much research and some intel from the locals, I found this wonderful spot. I was surrounded by quite a few otters fishing, with some coming ashore. This is my first ever real otter encounter, it was a beautiful bright sunny day and a just an incredible all round. A week back in Inverness meant I was able to head over to the Mountain Hares during the week. The light was beautiful but I felt I could see the snow melting before my eyes.
